The Southern Eagle Speakeasy

is thrilled to present the revival of The Savage Film Series

Truly love film? Come find your people. We’ve got you.

From 2002 through 2009, Justin’s production studio, Globeville Studios, had the honor of hosting a monthly series of films presented by cinephile extraordinaire, film historian, and all around brilliant film buff, Michael Savage. We are beyond excited to resume connecting other lovers of cinema with the insights and information offered by Michael’s remarkable presentations and discussions.

Please arrive at 6:00. While we enjoy the potluck, Michael will present an introduction to the film.

Of course you can head on home after the film though you’re invited and encouraged to stick around afterwards to participate in discussion.

The film begins between 7:15 and 7:30

The Howling - Date Change - October 29th - Film starts early at 6:30

Joe Dante’s The Howling (1981) is one of the great werewolf films, and one of the most entertaining horror movies of the 1980s. It is simultaneously frightening, funny, grotesque, and knowingly ridiculous, combining the atmosphere of classic horror with the anarchic sensibility of a filmmaker who clearly loves the genre.  What makes The Howling particularly effective is the way Dante gradually shifts the movie from psychological thriller to supernatural horror. The werewolf transformation effects by special-effects artist Rob Bottin remain the movie’s crowning achievement. Bottin doesn’t simply turn the characters into conventional Hollywood werewolves; he makes the transformations painful, grotesque, and almost biological. Join The Savage FIlm Series nine days before Halloween to get your heart-rate up and howl at the moon!

The Savage Film Series is proud to present this landmark classic and can’t wait for the spirited conversations it’s sure to inspire.

Please bring a dish for the potluck.

Vegetarian options are appreciated as always but certainly not required. Bring any beverages you’d like.

The film starts between 7:15 and 7:30
